Rhinoplasty Techniques

Open Rhinoplasty / Closed Rhinoplasty
It is one of the most frequent questions about rhinoplasty. Open or closed rhinoplasty?
Closed Method; no incision is done externally, a micro camera inserted into the nose and interventions are performed over a monitor.
Open method; an incision is done between the nose holes and all interventions are performed by direct view.

Pros. & Cons.
In closed method, as it requires a precise action it used to be performed by experienced surgeons. However in time it is accepted that open surgeries are more successful. Consequently open method became far more preferred method since 2000s. Three main reasons for this are as follows;

Successful Results; In open method all kind of precise interventions can be performed due to the whole nose is opened. Thus both aesthetic and functional results are more successful.

Quick Recovery; In spite of general belief swelling and bruises occur less in open method. Since bleeding in capillaries are immediately stopped and almost no bleeding can be achieved. Consequently less swelling and bruises occur and the required time for turning to normal life is shortened.

Non-specific Scar; The only advantage of closed method is having no apparent scar.  On the other hand the incision turn to the body color in a few weeks and cannot be recognized even with a close look.

In the view of above concepts, Prof. Dr. Nazim CERKES, being an authority in rhinoplasty throughout the whole  world, prefers open method in most cases.  But in the meantime Dr. Cerkes may also use the closed method for small interventions whenever it is necessary.
