How does botox work?
Botox cosmetic injections are commonly used to treat “motion wrinkles” caused by repeated movements of facial muscles.  Botox injections block the uptake of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine by the face muscle.  Even though the nerve continues to send the signal to contract the injected muscle fails to get the message and remains paralysed.   Wrinkles are softened and in some cases eliminated.

How is a botox procedure done?
Getting Botox takes only a few minutes and doesn’t require anesthesia. Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort.

How long does a botox injection last?
The face contains 43 muscles, and the right dosage range is different for each area. Within each area of the face, the right dosage can vary too.
When administered correctly by a skilled doctor and injected into the right places, expect to see results that last 3 to 6 months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax. Consistently using Botox makes each application work better. That’s because wrinkle-causing muscles get weaker with each repeated use, allowing the impact of the injections to last longer.
It’s very important to research the person doing your injections. Botox isn’t something to take lightly.  It should definitely suggest that to go to a plastic surgeon or dermatologist for these shots.

In other words, what determines how long the effects of botox lasts is:
*The dosage (and whether or not it’s been properly diluted)
*The duration & consistency of use
*The skill/experience of the surgeon who administers the injection
